    Abstract: A memory cell for a display is disclosed. The memory cell has a current limiter on the power supply to reduce the power consumed by the memory cell during a write operation when the binary state of the memory cell is flipped. In a dense memory environment, in a display with a million or more memory cells, the incremental power reduction of each memory cell corresponds to a substantial reduction in the overall power consumed by the display.

    Abstract: A color display that can deactivate colors based on one or more criteria is disclosed. Reducing the number of color channels used to display an image may help conserve power, which may help extend the operating life of a battery-operated device. The display includes a backplane that is segmented by color to enable the deactivation. The segmentation may also reduce electrical loading on the electrical lines used to address the pixels in the backplane.

    Abstract: A backplane including bit lines and word lines to update a radiative state of a pixel is disclosed. The back plane includes a first delay line that replicates delays caused by a bit line and a second delay line that replicates delays caused by a word line. The replicated delays cause word line signals traveling along a first path to arrive at a pixel at approximately the same time as bit line signals traveling along a second path. The delays are added incrementally row-by-row and column-by-column so that each pixel can receive synchronized signals regardless of its position in the array of pixels.
