A mounting system for body mounted camera equipment includes a tube supported on a three-axis gimbal and having connector assemblies at each end for mounting the equipment. Each connector assembly is made up of two connectors which axially engage. One of the connectors includes grooves in the cylindrical sidewall to include radially extending pins in the other connector. The grooves each include an axial entry portion, a circumferential portion and an axial seating portion. The connectors further include an angular interlock with three pins and six sockets with the pins and sockets including mating conical surfaces. The axial pins and sockets, the grooves and the radial pins are all configured to define a locking system having an entry requiring separate axial and rotational motions of the connectors before the pins and sockets can be engaged. An axial lock including a locking ring with a threaded surface slidably and rotatably mounted on one of the connectors and a cooperating catch defined by a threaded surface on the other of the connectors is applied to keep the axial pins and sockets engaged. A central passageway extends through the connector assembly.

An adjustable platform is used with a camera support system which includes a camera support and a support apparatus. The adjustable platform includes a platform, a mounting plate, to which a camera is attached, and a quick release mechanism. The platform has a surface, a first downwardly innerly beveled sidewall and a second downwardly innerly beveled sidewall. The mounting plate is disposed on the platform. The first and second downwardly innerly beveled sidewalls loosely engage the mounting plate so that the mounting plate is slidably coupled to the platform. The quick release mechanism is coupled to the platform and, when the quick release mechanism engages the mounting plate, it secures the mounting plate to the platform. The adjustable platform includes a lateral adjustment mechanism and a longitudinal adjustment mechanism disposed beneath the platform and coupled thereto.

A post mounting system for a body mounted camera mounting system includes a grip to go about the post of the system and a vernier clamp. The vernier clamp includes a vernier ring which is slidable axially and fixed angularly to the grip. A vernier nut threadably engages the grip and is rotatable on the vernier ring. A clamp ring is integrally formed with the vernier ring and is castellated to be compressible against the post extending through the device. A split clamp ring cooperates with a cam lever for easy clamping of the clamp ring to the castellated ring. An alignment chuck is also associated with the grip for precise alignment of the post in the post mounting system.

A mounting system for supporting body mounted camera equipment. A three-axis gimbal supports a tube assembly which has provision for mounting a camera at the upper end thereof, a video monitor near the bottom and modular equipment associated with the lower end. The structural tube assembly has radially extending flanges to be received by a clamp which interlocks with the flanges and then may be tightened about the lower portion of the tube assembly. An electrical connection is also made at the lower end of the tube assembly. The modular equipment includes a junction box. A battery hanger or a universal gyro mount are disclosed in association with the lower junction box. The universal gyro mount includes a telescoping tube structure providing attachment flanges at either end as well as intermediate ends for flywheels. Many degrees of freedom are available for the mount position and extent as well as for the orientation of the flywheel units.
