    摘要： A printer and transport assembly includes a transport conveyor for receiving individual blanks and continuously conveying the blanks in a downstream direction. A digital high speed printer is positioned directly above the transport conveyor downstream from where the blanks are received on the transport conveyor for printing high quality indicia on the individual blanks as they are continuously conveyed downstream. A blank drying arrangement receives printed blanks from the transport conveyor and moves the blanks in spaced relationship over a course of travel of sufficient length so as to sufficiently dry the printed indicia on the blanks. Ultimately, the dried printed blanks may be collected in a stack. Packaging, greeting cards, stickers, labels and coupons, for example, may be printed with the printer and transport assembly.

    摘要： A process for the on line production of cigarette filters comprises the steps of conveying a continuous thin flexible substrate past a source of smoke altering particulate material, such as adsorbents, catalysts and flavorants. An electrostatic charge is applied onto the substrate upstream of the source of particulate material. A layer of particulate material from the source is deposited onto the substrate with the thickness of the layer depending upon the strength of the electrostatic charge. The coated substrate is then cut into pieces, and the pieces are placed into the cavities between spaced apart filter components. In an alternative process, filter paper is coated with smoke altering particulate material by electrostatic deposition techniques, and spaced apart filter components are placed onto the particulate coated filter paper which is then folded around the filter components.

    摘要： The invention may include a cigarette package for containing a plurality of cigarettes, the cigarette package comprising a main body portion and a lid portion. The body portion may include a front panel, a first side panel adjacent the front panel of the main body portion, a second side panel adjacent to the front panel of the main body portion and spaced from the first side panel of the main body portion, a back panel adjacent to the first and second side panels of the main body portion and spaced from the front panel of the main body portion, and a bottom panel adjacent the front panel of the main body portion, the side panels of the main body portion and the back panel of the main body portion. The main body portion may have a first portion and a second portion, with the second portion being compressed to a thickness that is less than the first portion. The lid portion may include a front panel, a first side panel adjacent the front panel of the lid portion, a second side panel adjacent to the front panel of the lid portion and spaced from the first side panel of the lid portion, a back panel adjacent to the first and second side panels of the lid portion and spaced from the front panel of the lid portion, the back panel of lid portion being integral with the back panel of the main body portion; and a top panel adjacent the front panel of the lid portion, first and second side panels of the lid portion and back panel of the lid portion. The compressed portion may be provided with “I”-shaped of V-shaped cuts to alleviate damage to the pack material.

    摘要： Step-shaped innerframes and blanks for forming such innerframes are provided to permit shorter than conventional cigarettes to be packaged in a conventionally sized hinged lid box. A front panel is foldably connected to a substantially perpendicular step bottom panel which in turn is foldably connected to a substantially perpendicular back panel, such that the front and back panels extend in opposite directions and lie in substantially parallel planes to form an integral step configuration. When the inner frame is located within a hinged lid box, a receptacle is formed for a short cigarette bundle. A lower receptacle is defined below the step bottom panel to store discarded cigarettes which are inserted into the lower receptacle via a hole located in one of the box walls and any associated underlying innerframe panel. Preferably, the innerframe is provided with oppositely located side walls which are provided with biasing members which exert an inwardly directed force toward the cigarette bundle located within the upper receptacle to prevent cigarettes from falling as other cigarettes are removed. Suitable blanks are provided to form the step-shaped innerframes.
