The method comprises determining channel depletion for each amplifier from the power of the input signal to the optical amplifier and the power of the output signal from the previous amplifier. Each amplifier is then controlled to amplify the signal to a level equal to the nominal (ideal) power plus the calculated channel depletion for that amplifier.

The OTF preserves the spectral property of the tapped signal and applies a time-domain obfuscation to the tapped signal.

    摘要: A method of changing the spectral position of a lightpath between a source node and a destination node of an optical network. The optical network uses a flexible grid for spectral allocation and the lightpath has been allocated first spectral resources at a first spectral position. The method comprises, at the source node, reserving additional spectral resources for the lightpath which are contiguous in frequency with the first spectral resources. The method comprises re-tuning a light source at the source node such that the lightpath moves in frequency from using the first spectral resources at the first spectral position to using second spectral resources at a second spectral position, wherein the second spectral resources comprise at least some of the additional spectral resources. The method comprises releasing at least some of the first spectral resources. The source node continues to send traffic over the lightpath during the re-tuning.

In the method, an equivalent noise figure is determined for a virtual amplifier equivalent to the hybrid distributed Raman amplifier-Erbium doped fibre amplifier, and having an input power equal to the input power of the Erbium doped fibre amplifier when the distributed Raman amplifier is off and an output power equal to the Erbium doped fibre amplifier output power. A compensation power, dependent at least in part upon the equivalent noise figure, is determined. A control signal is provided for controlling the hybrid amplifier such that an optical signal amplified by the hybrid amplifier has a total output power equal to a predetermined nominal output power plus the compensation power.
