    Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for automatic noise control. Automatic noise control includes controlling a shadow noise control transfer function based on a shadow error signal and a filtered or unfiltered reference signal, generating the shadow error signal based on a filtered or unfiltered shadow anti-noise signal and an error signal, and substituting the noise control transfer function by the shadow noise control transfer function if the shadow error signal is smaller than the error signal.

    Abstract: Sound reduction includes producing an error signal representative of sound present in a target space, producing a reference signal corresponding to undesired sound present in the target space, and producing, based on the reference signal and the error signal a cancelling output signal representative of the undesired sound present in the target space. The method further includes producing, based on the cancelling output signal, sound to destructively interfere with the undesired sound present in the target space, and limiting the amplitude or power of at least one of the reference signal, the error signal and the cancelling output signal if a first condition is met, the at least one signal under examination is at least one of the reference signal, the error signal and the cancelling output signal, and fully or partially suspending the active noise controller update mechanism if a second condition is met.

    Abstract: An example active noise control filtering with an adaptive filter structure includes a controllable filter matrix with reference and error input signals, and updating the filter coefficients dependent on an optional filtered reference signal and an error signal, the error signal being representative of a performance criterion of the filter module. Further, a leakage functionality and a convergence functionality is applied to the updated filter coefficients. The leakage functionality is controlled by at least one of a flush functionality, freeze functionality, spatial freeze functionality and leakage threshold, and the convergence functionality is controlled by the freeze functionality and spatial freeze functionality.
