    Abstract: Examples disclosed herein relate to photodetector (PD) behavior modeling for process design kit. In some examples, a photodetector behavior model may receive input optical data. Further, the photodetector behavior model may be provided with input values corresponding to input parameters. The photodetector behavior model may identify a set of coefficients from a set of coefficient lookup tables, based on the input values corresponding to input parameters. The photodetector behavior model determines characteristics of one or more model parameters of the photodetector based on the identified set of coefficients. The behavior model determines an output metric indicative of an electrical response of the photodetector, based on the input optical data and the determined characteristics of the one or more model parameters.

    Abstract: Examples herein relate to multi-layer grating couplers. In particular, implementations herein relate to multi-layer grating couplers that include a first grating layer, an angle correction layer disposed over the first grating layer, and an oxide layer disposed between the first grating layer and the angle correction layer. The multi-layer grating coupler further includes a waveguide layer disposed at a same elevation as or below the first grating layer. The first grating layer is configured to convert a propagation direction of light from an in-plane direction through the waveguide layer to a near-vertical or non-in-plane direction into the angle correction layer. The angle correction layer is configured to tilt an output coupling angle of the light from the first grating layer such that the light exits the multi-layer grating coupler into an optical fiber at a same angle as the optical fiber.

    Abstract: Examples herein relate to single-etch layer grating couplers. In particular, implementations herein relate to single-etch layer grating couplers comprising a planar waveguide wherein a first grating section and a second grating section are etched into. The first grating section is configured to scatter light at a given wavelength at a first angle relative to vertical and the second grating section is configured to scatter light at the given wavelength at a second angle relative to vertical. The stagger-tuning of the first grating section and the second grating section results in the light at the given wavelength being scattered at a desired angle the same or near an angle at which an optical fiber is offset from vertical.
