Abstract: An electronic device may comprise a number of ports configured to removably receive pluggable modules, such as optical transceivers. The electronic device may also comprise processing circuitry comprising a power management engine. The power management engine may be configured to monitor system properties of the electronic device, port properties of the ports, and/or pluggable module properties of any pluggable modules installed in the ports. The power management engine may further be configured to dynamically select a high-power mode or a low-power mode for each of the pluggable modules installed in the ports based on the monitored properties.
