Abstract:
A data communications subchannel uses input signals and decoding logic to select the baud rate, the length of message characters, the mode of operation and the number of stop bits in a message character used in transmitting binary message characters between a data communications subchannel and a terminal device.
Abstract:
Apparatus for maintaining character synchronization in a data communication system comprises a buffer to store characters being transferred from a communications controller to a terminal device, a shift register connected between the buffer and the terminal device and a source of fill characters which provides characters to fill any gap between message characters provided by the communications controller.
Abstract:
A method, an apparatus, and a computer program are disclosed for determining the transmission rate and coding configuration which characterize dissimilar remote terminals in a time-shared computer system. Electrical communication is established between an individual remote terminal and a line adapter unit, a single standard character is then transmitted from the remote terminal to the line adapter unit. The standard character is immediately analyzed either by hardware or by software to determine which one of a variety of transmission rates and code configurations characterize the particular terminal. In response to the analysis of the standard character, data communication is established between the remote terminal and the computer at the indicated transmission rate and in the indicated code.
Abstract:
A data communication system comprises a communications controller and a processor having fixed hardware which utilizes control characters stored in memory to detect the end of messages being received from a variety of terminal devices, to detect changes in message code sets and to perform a variety of other functions. This system can accommodate a wide variety of message code sets, message formats, bit rates and line disciplines without any modification of hardware in the controller and processor.
