摘要: Two data centers located in the vicinity are connected using a synchronous transfer copy function, and one of the data centers is coupled with a third data center disposed at a remote location by an asynchronous remote copying function. The order whereat a storage sub-system located in the vicinity has received data from a host is consistently guaranteed, and the third data center holds the data. Further, each storage sub-system includes a function whereby, during normal operation, data can be exchanged and the data update state can be obtained by the storage sub-systems located in the two data centers that do not directly engage in data transmission.

摘要: In a storage system, a logical volume is divided into a plurality of small areas called logical storage devices and only such an area designated by a user is made an object of remote copying or migratory copying. Also, there is provided a unit for forming a logical volume from any logical storage device of any RAID group. Thereby, the reduction of the deterioration in performance at the time of remote copying, the reduction of a storage area to be assigned to a secondary site as a copy destination, the shortening of a time required for migratory copying and the assignment of any area of a logical volume on any RAID group are enabled.

摘要: A storage system connected to host processors through data transfer paths includes at least one storage unit for moving a head for reading/writing the data relatively to a storage medium to read/write the data from/to the storage medium, and a controller for controlling the data transfer between the host processors and the storage units. The controller obtains and stores, every data transfer path, the information relating to the delay time which occurs when transferring the data through the data transfer path of interest. When an I/O request is issued from the host processor, in accordance with the measured information of the delay time in the data transfer paths, a request for positioning the head near the position on the storage medium in which the data is stored which is to be read/written is issued. In addition, when posting the release of the wait state to the host processors which had issued the I/O requests and are made wait the completion of the processings for other I/O requests, the order of issuing the notification is determined in accordance with the delay time in the data transfer paths which are permitted to be used in order to process the I/O requests.

摘要: In a storage apparatus system, after having obtained the coherency between a file system of a main storage apparatus system and the stored data, a host computer issues a freezing instruction to a main DKC which transfers in turn the disk image at a time point of the issue of freezing instruction to a sub-DKC and then transmits a signal, showing that all the data has been transmitted, to the sub-DKC. In the sub-DKC, the disk image at a time point of reception of the freezing instruction is held until a signal showing that all the data has been transmitted is issued next time, and when the main storage apparatus system becomes unusable at an arbitrary time point, the data of the disk image, at a time point of issue of the freezing instruction, which is held by the sub-storage apparatus system can be utilized.

摘要: A server has management information including correspondence information between a physical storage region and a virtualized storage region, so as to provide a virtualized storage region. The server includes a unit for using the management information to provide a virtualized storage region to another host and a unit for instructing the control of the storage regions based on the virtualized storage region to a controller for a storage device for providing the physical storage region. Moreover, the controller includes a unit having whole or a part of management information including the correspondence information and performing the control of the storage device based on the virtualized storage region in response to the instruction.
