摘要： A mercury-free vehicle discharge bulb is provided. The discharge bulb includes an arc tube a glass shroud extending in a front-rear direction to cylindrically surround the arc tube, a metal band surrounding and holding a rear end portion of the glass shroud, and an insulating plug supporting the glass shroud in a fixed manner via the metal band. A ratio S1/S2 of a first area S1 to a second area S2 is 1 to 3. The first area S1 is a surface area of an outer surface of the glass shroud in a region from a circumference of the glass shroud at a position of a center of the discharge space to a front end edge of the metal band, and the second area S2 is a surface area of a surface of the metal band that touches the glass shroud.

摘要： In a mercury-free arc tube, regions including molybdenum foils 17 of electrode assemblies each of which is formed by connecting and integrating an electrode 16, a molybdenum foil 17, and a lead wire 18, are pinch-sealed where the electrode 16 projects inside a closed glass bulb 12, which encloses luminescent substances, etc. The molybdenum foil 17 is doped with or coated with TiO2 in the form of discontinuous lands and subjected to surface roughening by etching including oxidation and reduction. TiO2 particles or a TiO2 layer exposed on the rough surface 17c of the molybdenum foil 17 increases chemical joining strength to glass and makes deeper, more complicated minute unevenness 17b on the molybdenum foil surface to increase the mechanical joining strength to glass, so that even when a heat stress occurs at the interface between the molybdenum foil and glass in the pinch-sealed portion, foil floating does not occur.

摘要： A discharge bulb is provided. The discharge bulb includes an arc tube, a glass shroud cylindrically surrounding the arc tube, and an insulated plug fixedly supporting an end portion of the glass shroud. The arc tube includes a light generating portion having a discharge space therein, a first pinch seal portion and a second pinch seal portion disposed on respective sides of the light generating portion, a first electrode rod protruding into the discharge space from the first pinch seal portion, and a second electrode rod protruding into the discharge space from the second pinch seal portion so as to be opposed to the first electrode rod. The discharge space contains a rare gas and a metal halide, but does not contain mercury. The first electrode is made of thoriated tungsten, and the second electrode rod is made of pure tungsten.

摘要： A vehicle discharge lamp is provided with an outer tube, an arc tube disposed within the outer tube, and a pair of electrodes disposed within the arc tube. The arc tube includes a light emitting portion, and a pair of pinch seal portions. Molybdenum foils are sealed in the respective pinch seal portions. Each of the electrodes includes a sealed portion sealed within the pinch seal portion, a projecting portion projecting into the light emitting portion, and a welding portion welded to the molybdenum foil. A concavo-convex part is formed on the sealed portion.

摘要： A mercury-free arc tube for a discharge lamp unit including a closed glass bulb in which main light emitting substances of NaI, ScI3, and ScBr3 and buffer substances of InI and ZnI2 are enclosed together with Xe gas, and wherein an amount of enclosed ScBr3 is in a range of about 5 wt % to about 24 wt % relative to a total weight of the substances enclosed in the closed glass bulb. The mercury-free arc tube may also include a shroud glass tube, which is surrounds the closed glass bulb and a pair of electrodes, which are disposed to be opposed to each other in the closed glass bulb.
