The tablets, compositions and methods of the present invention, comprising a carbonate salt of an aliphatic amine polymer and s monovalent anion can prevent or ameliorate acidosis, in particular acidosis in patients with renal disease. The tablets and compositions of the present invention maintain a disintegration time of no greater than 30 minutes at 37° C. and at pH of at least 1 for a period of at least ten weeks at 60° C. Furthermore, the tablets are stable for extended periods of time without the need for specialized storage conditions.

Antibiotic-associated diarrhea, such as that caused by Clostridium difficile, represents a serious medical complication that can result from administering a broad-spectrum antibiotic to a subject. Such diarrhea leads to significant potassium loss from the subject. The present invention discloses a polymeric therapeutic agent that treats antibiotic-associated diarrhea and is physiologically potassium neutral. This polymer contains polystyrene sodium sulfonate and polystyrene potassium sulfonate repeat units.

The immunogenic composition of the invention is composed of a plurality of multimeric complexes, each complex being composed of recombinant, enzymatically inactive Helicobacter pylori urease. Each multimeric complex is composed of six Urease A subunits and six Urease B subunits. Alternatively, the composition is composed of a mixture of multimeric complexes, wherein each multimeric complex in the mixture is composed of six Urease A subunits and six Urease B subunits or four Urease A subunits and four Urease B subunits.
