Abstract: A ring network protection method is provided. A first node sends a protection switching request on a link protection tunnel of a link between the first node and a second node and on a node protection tunnel of the second node when a fault occurs in a ring network. A protection switching response is received on the link protection tunnel of the link between the first node and the second node, or the node protection tunnel of the second node. Services are switched to the protection tunnel where the protection switching request is received.
