Abstract: Exemplary embodiments provide methods, apparatuses, and supporting structures for deploying a flexible, slender element (such as a conduit or subcutaneous sensor) into a user's tissue (such as skin tissue). A first embodiment leverages rotary motion to deploy the element while constraining the element to prevent buckling. A second embodiment leverages linear motion to deploy the flexible, slender element with the assistance of an introducer element to provide support. Other embodiments provide support features; for instance, a sacrificial sleeve may impermanently hold or embrace the slender element to temporarily increase the structural stiffness of the slender element. Another support structure may provide for tensioning the user's tissue, such as by causing the skin to bulge in an area where deployment of a slender element is facilitated. The cannula or sensor itself may also be structured or configured to support deployment.

Abstract: In an aspect, an adhesive patch is presented. The adhesive patch has a top surface configured to adhere to a wearable medical device. The adhesive patch has a bottom surface opposite the top surface, wherein the bottom surface includes an adhesive layer configured to adhere to a user's skin. The adhesive patch has a first perforation extending through the top and bottom surfaces, the first perforation configured to receive a piercing element from the wearable medical device.
