Abstract: In a drill press, of the type having a rotary drill mounted on a quill that is moved reciprocally by a rack and pinion mechanism, a feed unit comprising an air driven piston prime mover, a contained belt attached thereto to transmit the rectilinear motion to a pinion for transfer to rotary motion, an intermediate shaft and clutch for attaching the rotating pinion to the drill press rack and pinion mechanism, and a cam drum, driven by the intermediate shaft, for controlling the drilling operations.
