Abstract: A band marking apparatus for cables includes an annular nozzle which is normally closed and is opened by the marking material under a predetermined pressure. A proportioning valve operated by the moving cable controls the material applied to the nozzle. The nozzle includes two spring-like plates which open under pressure. The valve may include a rotary sliding element providing a pressurized seal or a solenoid valve controlled by a commutator driven by the cable. The nozzle plates may also be held closed by electromagnetic force.
