Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting screen contents and adaptive enablement of screen content coding modes. Encoding mode decision may be made adaptive to include or exclude screen content coding (SCC) modes. In some embodiments, a screen content decision is based on one or more statistics characterizing a distribution of meaningful colors (e.g., chroma) and/or intensities (e.g., luma) determined for a population of pixels of an input picture. In some embodiments, a screen content decision is based on one or more statistics characterizing the pure flat area of an input picture and the area with extreme sharp edges. Pictures may be encoded according to a mode selection that is adaptive to the screen content decision, for example selecting between encoding modes that include SCC modes, or selecting between encoding modes that exclude SCC modes.

Abstract: Techniques related to adaptive video deblocking for video coding are discussed. Such techniques may include selecting a deblock filter strength threshold offset based on a picture or slice level quantization parameter being within a particular zone of multiple zones of a range of available quantization parameters such that each zone has a preselected deblock filter strength threshold offset corresponding thereto.

Abstract: Techniques related to deblock filtering for 360 video are discussed. Such video coding techniques include determining, from a 2D video frame that includes a projection from a 360 video space, a group of pixels for deblock filtering including a first set of pixels and a second set of pixels that are non-neighboring sets of pixels in the individual 2D video frame and include a first pixel of the first set of pixels and a second pixel of the second set of pixels that are neighboring pixels in the 360 video space and deblock filtering the group of pixels.
