    摘要: A self-locking nut has an annular body, an axial threaded bore, and a hexagonal exterior periphery. A small bore is drilled through the body parallel to the threaded bore adjacent to an apex of two peripheral flat surfaces. An L-shaped locking pin has a base leg received in that small bore, and an interference leg projecting into the threaded bore for interfering relation with a mating bolt. The distal end of the base leg is provided with an outwardly facing recess, and this end is secured relative to the nut body by cold flowing body material into engagement with the pin recess. The pin is fabricated from Type 308 stainless steel welding rod having a uniform circular cross section.

    摘要: A heavy duty press mechanism, whose ram is driven by means of an eccentric crank and pitman, carries a head with four aligned indention punches for distorting thread pitch simultaneously on four axially aligned hex nuts. A feed track system feeds a row of axially aligned hex nuts under the punch head. A reciprocating ejector-stop, synchronized with the punch ram, simultaneously ejects a group of four indented nuts and defines a stop for the following group of nuts at the indention station. A feed system includes an axial feed track for feeding nuts to the indention station, a lateral feed track, and a transfer speed coupler coupling these tracks. A vibrating hopper feeds laterally aligned nuts into the lateral feed track, where a single row of side-by-side nuts is fed by gravity to the speed coupler. The speed coupler effects a transfer from lateral feed to axial feed into the axial feed track. Air jet means initiates the axial feed of nuts in the speed coupler; and a vibrator associated with the speed coupler contributes to the smooth, fast transfer of nuts from lateral feed to axial feed. The indention punches deform the material of one wall of each nut, producing accurately controlled thread deflection into the threaded bores, and also produce a controlled, slight ovaloid shape of the hex nut.

    摘要: A self-locking nut has an annular body, an axial threaded bore, and a hexagonal exterior periphery. The distal end of the base leg is provided with an outwardly facing recess, and this distal end is retained within the nut body by cold flowing body material into that small bore and recess. The recess includes two abuttment surfaces which are disposed in planes inclined away from a plane parallel to the base leg and perpendicular to a plane defined by the two pin legs. These abuttment surfaces coact with the nut metal displaced into the recess to allow for rotation of the distal end of the base leg through an arc less than that required for the interference leg. Therefore the tortional stress on the base leg is minimized and a much stiffer material may be used to fabricate the locking pin for maintaining the anti-reversing force on the bolt.

    摘要: A lock nut having a locking ring with a spoon-shaped lug. The lock ring includes a nut body having a bore with an interior threaded portion and a substantially cylindrical recess coaxial with the threaded portion of the bore. The recess includes a single notch on a portion of the recess. In addition, the lock ring includes a threaded locking ring positioned within the recess. The locking ring is deformed when threading the bolt onto the lock nut to frictionally grip the bolt. The locking ring also includes a single projecting lug at one side only of the locking ring, which fits into the notch to prevent relative rotation between the ring and the nut body. The lug includes a bowl-shaped nodule for collecting shavings gathering within the threads of the bolt and the interior bore of the lock nut.
