摘要:
Systems and method in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention can includes an implant comprising a first wing, a spacer extending from the first wing, and a distraction guide. The distraction guide is arranged in a first configuration to pierce and/or distract tissue associated with adjacent spinous processes extending from vertebrae of a targeted motion segment. The implant can be positioned between the adjacent spinous processes and once positioned, the implant can be arranged in a second configuration. When arranged in a second configuration, the distraction guide can act as a second wing. The first wing and the second wing can limit or block movement of the implant along a longitudinal axis of the implant.

An adaptive spinal rod is provided for connecting levels of an adaptive stabilization system to support the spine while providing for the preservation of spinal motion. Embodiments of the adaptive stabilization rod include a ball having an anchor system, a deflection system, a vertical rod system and a connection system. The deflection system provides adaptive stabilization and load-sharing. The adaptive spinal rod connects different levels of the construct in a multilevel construct. The adaptive spinal rod cooperates with the deflection system to further reduce stress exerted upon the bone anchors and spinal anatomy.

A bone anchor comprising a self-centering ball-joint suitable for use in a spine stabilization prosthesis which supports the spine while providing for the preservation of spinal motion. The bone anchor has a deflectable ball-rod partially received in a socket of a housing formed in the head of the bone anchor. A centering rod received partially in the ball-rod and partially within the housing operates to align the ball-rod with the longitudinal axis of the bone anchor. Deflection of the ball-rod bends the centering rod which in turn applies a restoring force upon the ball-rod.

Compound spinal rods function as part of the dynamic stabilization prosthesis to provide load sharing with motion preservation as part of a dynamic stabilization prosthesis. Compound spinal rods are used to span from one vertebra to an adjacent vertebra. Compound spinal rods include a first rod connected by a linkage to a second rod. The linkage allows for movement of the first rod relative to the second rod. The movement permitted by the compound spinal rod is designed to enhance the ability of a dynamic stabilization prosthesis to more closely approximate the natural kinematics of the spine without impairing stabilization of the spine.

A dynamic spinal stabilization linkage for use in stabilizing of the spine. The linkage connects adjacent vertebrae to provide load-sharing and stabilization while allowing natural kinematics. The linkage comprises three rigid bodies joined in series with 3-degree-of-freedom spherical joint between each body. The joints have range-of-motion constraints which limit undesirable intervertebral motion.

Versatile polyaxial connector assemblies are provided for a dynamic stabilization system which supports the spine while providing for the preservation of spinal motion. Embodiments of the dynamic stabilization system include versatile polyaxial connectors in addition to bone anchors, a deflection system and a vertical rod system. The bone anchors connect the construct to the spinal anatomy. The deflection system provides dynamic stabilization while reducing the stress exerted upon the bone anchors and spinal anatomy. The vertical rod system spans different levels of the construct. The versatile polyaxial connectors include connectors mounted coaxially and/or offset with the bone anchors to adjustably connect the deflection system, vertical rod system and bone anchors allowing for safe, effective and efficient placement of the construct relative to the spine.

A dynamic stabilization system including a flexible bone anchor and methods for assembling a dynamic stabilization assembly which supports the spine while providing for the preservation of spinal motion. The flexible bone anchor includes a flexible post mounted within a bone anchor. Deflection of the flexible post is controlled by a flexible section integrated into the flexible post. A housing encloses the flexible post isolating it from the bone and providing a stable connection point for other elements of the implant. An internal surface within the housing is positioned to limit deflection of the flexible post. The force/deflection properties of the flexible bone anchor are adapted to be configured and/or customized to the anatomy and functional requirements of the patient by changing the properties of the flexible section and housing.
