    摘要: Systems for launching one or more projectiles from a bore are provided. An exemplary system incorporates a shell, a projectile, an explosive charge and a wad. The shell includes a base and a casing, with the casing defining an interior. The projectile is located within the interior and is configured to be expelled from the shell casing. The explosive charge is located within the interior and is configured to expel the projectile from the casing. The wad is located within the interior and is configured to expel the projectile from the casing in response to detonation of the explosive charge. The wad includes petals and a petal stop, with the petals being movable between a closed position, in which free ends of the petals are arranged proximate to each other such that the petals at least partially surround the projectile, and an open position, in which the free ends of the petals are displaced from each other, the petal stop being configured to limit movement of the petals beyond the open position. Responsive to being expelled from a bore by detonation of the explosive charge, the petals move from the closed position to the open position, thereby retarding the wad and releasing the projectile.

    摘要: The present invention, an Electromagnetic Locomotion Platform (ELP) system, is an electronically powered device which allows human-like activities to be performed in all three axes: x, y, & z, in a confined and localized a for the purpose of attaining total immersion (both visual and physical) into Virtual Environments. The ELP system allows humans the ability to walk, jog, run, crawl, etc. in a stationary position, thus the user can "walk forever to nowhere", similar to the basic function of a treadmill. This feature can be enhanced by having the user wear a helmet mounted display (HMD) which is coupled to a computer generated Virtual Reality (VR) system. The VR system provides external environments to the HMD and when synchronized with the movements of the individual on the ELP, it displays visual changes in the surrounding environment according to the movements generated by the user. This is a system which then can totally immerse someone into a Virtual Environment by allowing body movement to dictate visual changes in the environment, yet keep the subject in essentially the same location. In addition to the visual immersion capability, the ELP also has the ability to physically immerse humans by generating and applying resistive forces which will cause the body to work, this energy expenditure replicates the physical loads experienced by the body in the real world.

    摘要: A primer and tool holder is configured for mounting on an artillery piece a coupling which projects at a downward angle from the holder and is received in a trunnion mount tunnel on the artillery piece. The coupling has a wedge lock which is received in the tunnel and is secured by a wedge lock expanded by advancing a cam. An primer carrier or tray having a plurality of holes therein stores individual primers in the holes with the ends of the primers being readily accessible to the artilleryman. The base has a plurality of storage tubes fixed thereto for receiving tools such as a spit-hole brush, a vent hole reamer, a primer chamber brush and a spit-hole drill. The base also has a cam latch proximate the lower end thereof for fastening the lower end of the primer and tool holder to a drain hole. An alternate embodiment includes straight walled through holes drilled at a 10.degree.-15.degree. angle above horizontal to retain the primers. The article carrier may be articulated to pivot between 1) a stowed position substantially parallel to base and 2) an operational position substantially perpendicular to base. A locking mechanism may lock the tray in the stowed and operational positions and is connected to the holder by a tether. A cover is provided for covering the primer and tool holder when not in use to protect the primers and tools from the elements.

    摘要: An air distribution connector valve mechanism includes a pair of mating cectors, each having a self-closing, one way valve arranged and adapted to interfere with the self-closing, one way valve of the other connector when the two connectors are coupled together, such that the two valves will then open for unrestricted passage of air therethrough. Each connector has a coupling mechanism for releasably coupling the two connectors together to cause the interference between them. Each of the valves includes a valve body, and a compression spring associated and aligned therewith, in a valve housing having an axis of symmetry within the associated connector. Each valve body is retained and slidable axially within the housing against the force exerted by the associated compression spring, the latter normally urging the valve body against an end wall of the housing to block an opening therein. The valve body has projecting spacers with passageways therebetween on its cylindrical surface for separation from the inner surface of the associated valve housing. Thus, air is allowed to pass from one end to the other of the coupled connectors by virtue of the respective valve bodies having been unseated from their associated end walls.

    摘要: A butterfly actuated quick coupling connector valve includes a pair of mag connectors, each having a self-closing, butterfly valve arranged and adapted to align with the self-closing, butterfly valve of the other connector when the two connectors are coupled together, such that the two valves will be then open for unrestricted passage of air therethrough. Each connector has a coupling mechanism for releasably coupling the two connectors together to cause interference between them. Each of the valves is attached to a plunger, and a compression spring is associated and aligned therewith, in a valve housing having an axis of symmetry within the associated connector. Each plunger is retained and slidable axially within the housing against the force exerted by the associated compression spring, the latter normally urging the valve body against an end wall of the housing to block an opening therein. The plunger has a rotatable shaft attached to it with a butterfly valve mounted to its centerline surface. This assembly moves forward and rearward with the plunger and rotates 90 degrees at the rearward most portion of its travel. This rotation allows the passage of air, gases, and fluids to flow without restriction through the entire connector valve. Thus, air and other substances are allowed to pass from one end to the other of the coupled connectors by virtue of the respective butterfly valves having been unseated from their associated end walls and rotated by means of springs and/or a cam path.
