摘要： The toothbrush includes a handle portion (12 or 55) and a brushhead portion (14 or 57) with a bristle set (20 or 53) at one end of the brushhead. At least one sensor (16 or 56 is located either on the handle of the toothbrush or on the bristle set back plate (54) of the toothbrush. When the sensor is located on the handle of the toothbrush, the position of the brushhead is determined by a processor (44 or 58) relative to the inside or outside surfaces of the teeth on the basis of the temperature detected by the sensor, either the outside environmental temperature or the skin temperature of the user. When the sensor is located on the bristle set back plate, the determination is made on the basis of the position of the bristle set relative to the cheek of the user.

摘要： The mouthpiece includes a mouthpiece carrier member (14) having upper and lower sections which are adapted to receive the upper and lower teeth of a user. The mouthpiece carrier member has several embodiments which include side members and an intermediate member or members connecting the two side members to define the two sections. A bristle field (20) is mounted on the mouthpiece carrier member for contact with the surfaces of the teeth. The mouthpiece carrier member is moved in such a manner to produce a bristle action which has a significant axial component, resulting in the bristle tufts moving toward the teeth, contacting the teeth and moving away from the teeth, producing cleaning action on the teeth.

摘要： The power dental appliance includes a handle/receiver assembly (12) and a nozzle assembly (14) which is attachable thereto. The nozzle assembly and the handle/receiver include portions which together define an interface arrangement. The nozzle includes an extending tubular member (30), with two sets of opposing sides with lateral grooves (42, 44) in one set of opposing sides (38, 40), near the lower end thereof. The handle/receiver includes a hollow upper portion (32), into which the tubular member portion of the nozzle fits, the hollow portion including mating projections in the form of ribs (46, 48) which mate with the grooves in the tubular member to prevent the nozzle from coming off the handle during operation of the appliance, but permitting removal thereof by the user.
