摘要： Herbicidal composition used in method of preventing, for a time, growth of troublesome perennial grasses and sedges by incorporation of the composition into a surface layer of the soil of a field plot infested with the tubers and/or underground stems of such weeds and primarily above such tubers and stems. The composition is made up of .alpha.-(2,2,2-trichloroethyl)-m-chlorostyrene or .alpha.-(2,2,2-trichloroethyl)-m-bromostyrene or a co-mixture thereof and a suitable liquid or solid carrier to provide an emulsifiable concentrate, a wettable powder, a tank mix, a dust composition or a granulated solid composition.

摘要： Crop tolerance to thiocarbamate herbicides, such as EPTC and butylate, and to the herbicide 2-(2,-2,2-trichloroethyl)-2-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)oxirane is improved on applying to the locus of the crop at least an antidotal amount of a chloropyridine having a chloromethyl, dicloromethyl or trichloromethyl group on the ring and at least one additional ring substituent which may be Cl, NH.sub.2, CCl.sub.3, methylsulfonyl or morpholino. The herbicide and antidote compounds may be applied concurrently separately or as a composition containing both compounds in combination.

摘要： Method of preventing, for a time, growth of perennial grasses and sedges in which a halostyrene compound selected from .alpha.-(2,2,2-trichloroethyl)-m-chlorostyrene and .alpha.-(2,2,2-trichloroethyl)-m-bromostyrene is incorporated into a surface layer of the soil of a field plot infested with the tubers and/or underground stems of the said perennial grasses and sedges at a concentration in the range of about 0.25 to about 50 ppm, and more preferably about 1 to about 25 ppm within the layer, and the layer being about 1/8 to about 6 inches in thickness and the dosage rate of halostyrene compound being at least about 0.5 pound per acre and up to about 10 pounds per acre and preferably below about 4 pounds per acre. Essentially a substantial portion of the compound is incorporated in the soil above most of the tubers and/or underground stems of the perennial grasses and sedges to be controlled, or directly contacted with said tuber and/or stems.

摘要： The selectivity of aryloxyphenoxypropanoate herbicides, such as methyl 2-(4-((3-chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)-2-pyridinyl)oxy)phenoxy)propanoate, when used for the control of weeds in grassy crops, such as rice, can be improved by pre-treating the grassy crop seeds or plants with an amount of an aryloxyphenoxypropanoate herbicide sufficient to elevate the acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase enzyme activity level, but insufficient to cause phytotoxicity.
