Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a grooming system having an adaptive lighting system (70) and a personal care appliance (50), particularly a hair cutting appliance, the adaptive lighting system (70) comprising at least one sensor (74, 76, 78, 80) that is arranged to detect an illumination-indicative value in the vicinity of a treatment head (54) of the appliance (50), at least one light source (72, 110, 134) that is arranged to illuminate a treatment zone, a lighting control unit (86, 102) operatively coupled with the at least one sensor (74, 76, 78, 80) and the at least one light source (72, 110, 134), wherein the lighting control unit (86, 102) is arranged to control the at least one light source (72, 110, 134) dependent on the illumination-indicative value detected by the at least one sensor (74, 76, 78, 80), and wherein the lighting control unit (86, 102) is arranged to increase a target illumination level when a detected actual illumination level is low, and to decrease a target illumination level when a detected actual illumination level is high. The present disclosure further relates to a method of operating an adaptive lighting system (70) and to a corresponding computer program.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a hair cutting apparatus (600), such as a shaver, which is enabled to detect whether hair is currently being cut in a robust way. Such apparatus has a motor (102) for driving a cutting element. The motor current (106) is evaluated by filtering and amplifying it in such a way that a time derivative of the motor current (106) is processed and other parts of the motor current (106), such as noise and DC-5 parts, are eliminated. An evaluator determines whether the time derivative of the motor current is above a predefined threshold value.

Abstract: A hair cutting apparatus, such as a shaver, includes a cutting detector to actually detect any hair-cutting actions of the hair cutting apparatus. The apparatus further includes a cutting indicator having a light indicator configured and controlled by the cutting detector to be instantaneously activated when the cutting detector actually detects a hair-cutting action.

Abstract: Touchscreen mirror device (100) comprising a touchscreen panel (10) and a mirror surface (20). The touchscreen panel (10) comprises a grid of capacitive sensors (12) for detecting a position of an input object such as a fingertip (F) near the touchscreen panel (10). The mirror surface (20) is configured to at least partially reflect a mirror image (M) at a front side of the mirror surface (20). The mirror surface (20) comprises a reflective metal layer (21) divided in separate metal islands (21a,21b) that are electrically isolated from each other by a single contiguous gap (G) for allowing the capacitive sensor (12) to detect a position of the input object through the mirror surface (20).

Abstract: The invention relates to an electric shaver (1) comprising a cutter unit (3), an electric motor (4), a load detector arranged to detect a load current of the motor (4) and a controller. The controller switches the average voltage from a first level to a second level once the load current exceeds a first threshold value (TH_TH), and switches the average voltage from the second level back to the first level if the load current falls below a second threshold value (TH_TL) and stays below the second threshold value (TH_TL) for a predefined time period. By operating on a lower energy consumption when the cutter unit of the shaver is not in contact with the skin, energy is saved without the need for a proximity sensor.
