    Abstract: There is provided a computer-implemented method for creating a panoramic radiographic image (600) of an object under examination (108). The method comprises: obtaining a stitching sequence comprising overlapping partial images of the object under examination; obtaining (401) data separating a marker region of the stitching sequence from an object region, the marker region depicting a stitching marker usable for image registration; performing a first stitching operation, comprising performing a first image registration process on the stitching sequence with respect to a marker plane and reconstructing (403A) therefrom a marker composite image (502); performing a second stitching operation, comprising performing a second image registration process on the stitching sequence with respect to an object plane and reconstructing (403B) therefrom an object composite image (504); rescaling (404) at least one of the marker region of the marker composite image (502) and the object region of the object composite image (504) to account for an object-marker distance, wherein the rescaling comprises applying separate scaling factors to the marker region and the object region such that the said regions exhibit the same scale following the rescaling; selecting image regions for inclusion in the panoramic radiographic image, comprising selecting (402A) the marker region of the marker composite image and selecting (402B) the object region of the object composite image; and combining (405) the selected image regions to form the panoramic radiographic image.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus (10) for scan direction detection and stitching sequence determination of a plurality of X-ray images, comprising: an input unit (20); a processing unit (30); and an output unit (40). The input unit is configured to provide the processing unit with a first X-ray image acquired by an X-ray image acquisition system, and the first image comprises image data of a patient. The input unit is configured to provide the processing unit with a second X-ray image acquired by the X-ray image acquisition system after it has moved with respect to the patient, and the second image comprises image data of the patient. The processing unit is configured to determine a top similarity value comprising a comparison of at least one region of image data of the patient at and/or adjacent to a top border in the first image with at least one equivalent sized region of image data of the patient at and/or adjacent to a bottom border in the second image. The processing unit is configured to determine a right similarity value comprising a comparison of at least one region of image data of the patient at and/or adjacent to a right border in the first image with at least one equivalent sized region of image data of the patient at and/or adjacent to a left border in the second image. The processing unit is configured to determine a bottom similarity value comprising a comparison of at least one region of image data of the patient at and/or adjacent to a bottom border in the first image with at least one equivalent sized region of image data of the patient at and/or adjacent to a top border in the second image. The processing unit is configured to determine a left similarity value comprising a comparison of at least one region of image data of the patient at and/or adjacent to a left border in the first image with at least one equivalent sized region of image data of the patient at and/or adjacent to a right border in the second image. The processing unit is configured to determine a scan direction and translation distance of the X-ray image acquisition system associated with the movement of the X-ray acquisition system comprising utilization of a maximum of the top, right, bottom or left similarity values and/or determine a combined image formed from the first image and the second image comprising utilization of the maximum of the top, right, bottom or left similarity values. The output unit is configured to output the scan direction and translation distance and/or the combined image.

    Abstract: An image processing system and related method. The system comprises an input interface (IN) configured for receiving an input image. A filter (FIL) of the system filters said input image to obtain a structure image from said input image, said structure image including a range of image values. A range identifier (RID) of the system identifies, based on an image histogram for the structure image, an image value sub-range within said range. The sub-range being associated with a region of interest. The system output through an output interface (OUT) a specification for said image value sub-range. In addition or instead, a mask image for the region of interest or for region or low information is output.

    Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus (100) for processing a medical image (IM) of a structure of interest (SOI). The apparatus comprises a first unit (101) configured for decomposing the medical image (IM) into at least one band pass image (Bdl) and a low pass image (L); a user interface (102) arranged for enabling a user to specify an enhancement curve (EC) for the radiographic image (IM) based on at least one of (i) a metric structure length (l), (ii) a structure selectivity (s) and (iii) a structure enhancement strength (a); a second unit (103) configured for applying the enhancement curve (EC) to the at least one band pass image (Bdl) for generating at least one enhanced band pass image EBdl; and a third unit (105) configured for composing an enhanced medical image (EIM) based on the at least one enhanced band pass image (EBdl) and the low pass image (L). The invention also relates to a corresponding method of processing a medical image (IM).
