Abstract: An image reading apparatus according to the present disclosure includes: a platen glass on which a document is placed; a light source, an image sensor; an image reading unit for optically reading an image of a reading area of the image sensor; a rotatable document cover for covering the platen glass; a cover state detection unit for the document cover; a control unit to detect a sensor output level of the image sensor; and a document size specification unit for the document. The control unit causes the image reading unit to perform a reading operation for specifying the size of the document in the main scanning direction in a state in which the document cover is open, and causes the light source to emit a predetermined light amount in the reading operation, which is larger than the light amount when the document image is read from the document.

Abstract: An image reading apparatus includes a reading controller, a data generating circuit unit, a document holder, an opening/closing sensor which provides an output of a first level when the document holder is open by an angle equal to or more than a predetermined angle, and a storage unit which stores an adjustment value. Where a return is made from a power saving mode to an active mode, when an output level of the opening/closing sensor is the first level, the reading controller makes a setting for an operation of the data generating circuit unit based on the adjustment value stored in the storage unit, and then makes the reading unit perform reading for document size detection.

Abstract: An image reading apparatus includes a document tray, a common transport route, a curved transport route, a linear transport route, a switching device, a document transport device, a first image sensor, a second image sensor, a trailing edge detector, a multi feed detector, a leading edge detector, and a controller. The controller determines a length of the document in the transport direction, on a basis of a time point that the leading edge detector has detected the leading edge of the document, a time point that the trailing edge detector has detected the trailing edge of the document, and a time point that a detection status of the multi feed detector has been switched to a non-detection state, and guides the document to the curved transport route or the linear transport route from the common transport route, according to the length of the document, by controlling the switching device.

Abstract: An image reading device includes a document tray, a linear conveyance path, a curved conveyance path, a document conveyance device, a scanning device, a length detecting device, an operation device, and a controller. A plurality of conveyance rollers are disposed at a predetermined first interval in the linear conveyance path. In the curved conveyance path, a plurality of conveyance rollers are disposed at a predetermined second interval longer than the first interval. When accepting through the operation device an instruction for conveying an original document through the curved conveyance path, the controller allows conveyance of the original document through the curved conveyance path when a length of the original document detected by the length detecting device is not shorter than the second interval or disallows conveyance of the original document through the curved conveyance path when the detected length of the original document is shorter than the second interval.
