A combined amount of the ink and the compensation vehicle dispensed to each site is at least substantially equal to a minimum site value that is predetermined for the ink set and the printing medium. The method further includes applying an amount of an overcoat liquid to the printed image to obtain a predetermined ratio of gloss to haze.

Suitable functional groups includes an aromatic ring structure having multiple carboxyl groups (or salts thereof) attached to the aromatic ring structure, wherein at least two of the multiple carboxyl groups are positioned on adjacent carbon atoms of the aromatic ring structure.

Additionally, when the pigmented ink-jet ink is printed on the glossy media substrate alone, the pigmented ink-jet ink has a glossy appearance, and wherein when the colorless matting liquid is overprinted or underprinted with respect to the pigmented ink-jet ink on the glossy media substrate, the pigmented ink-jet ink combined with the matting liquid exhibits a visually perceptible matte appearance compared to the glossy appearance of the ink-jet ink printed alone.

Specifically, a system for printing durable ink-jet ink images can comprise a first printhead containing a fixer composition including a charged fixer component, wherein the first printhead is configured for ink-jet printing the fixer composition on a substrate. The system can further comprise a second printhead containing an ink-jet ink, wherein the second printhead is configured for ink-jet printing the ink-jet ink composition over the fixer composition. The ink-jet ink can also include a colorant carrying an opposite charge with respect to the charged fixer component. A third printhead containing a polymer overcoat composition can also be present, and can be configured for ink-jet printing the polymer overcoat composition over ink-jet ink composition. The polymer of the polymer overcoat composition can also carry an opposite charge with respect to the charged fixer component.

In one example, the optically clear fluid composition includes an aqueous vehicle, an anionic polymeric binder dispersed in the aqueous vehicle, and wax particles incorporated in the aqueous vehicle. The anionic polymeric binder has a glass transition temperature (Tg) that is higher than 40 C, and a pH ranging from about 7 to about 11. The wax particles have a particle size ranging from about 25 nm to about 75 nm, and a melting temperature (Tm) ranging from about 100 C to about 150° C. The optically clear fluid composition has a viscosity ranging from about 0.5 centipoise to about 90 centipoise.
