An effective refractive index of a growth structure of the active-area growth portion is larger than an effective refractive index of a growth structure of the passive-area growth portion, and an active layer has a gain at a zero group-velocity point positioned on a high-frequency side of a dispersion curve of the photonic-crystal optical waveguide.

    摘要: An optical delay element including a photonic crystal line defect optical waveguide is disclosed that has a large group refractive index and has small or nearly constant wavelength dispersion of the group refractive index in a wide wavelength region for practical use. The optical delay element includes a line defect optical waveguide formed in a photonic crystal structure, and the volume of the line defect optical waveguide is less than the volume of a single line defect optical waveguide. Thereby, the waveguide band of the line defect optical waveguide has two zero points in the third order dispersion curve of the line defect optical waveguide, and the sign of the third order dispersion curve is inverted near the zero points. Therefore, the waveguide band of the line defect optical waveguide is modified, and this enables expansion of the wavelength region having a large group refractive index, small wavelength dispersion of the group refractive index, and small wavelength dispersion of the speed of optical pulses.

    摘要: A fixing apparatus includes a fixing member to be heated and a pressure-contacting member for pressure contacting the fixing member. The fixing apparatus directs and conveys a recording member through a nip formed between the fixing member and pressure applying member in such a manner that a toner image carried on a recording member contacts the fixing member in order to be fixed thereto with heat and pressure. The fixing apparatus is configured to direct a tip margin of the recording member toward the pressure applying member across a virtual linear extension line drawn from a downstream end to upstream end of the nip when only the tip margin exits from the nip. A fixing member side separation device may be separately provided from the surface of the fixing apparatus so as to separate the recording member exiting from the nip. A gap formed between the downstream end of the nip and the tip of the fixing member side separation device is set smaller than the width of the tip margin.

The optical control element is formed from a photonic crystal, and includes a first portion having a first refraction index in the photonic crystal, a second portion having a second refraction index lower than the first refraction index, and a refraction-index-distributed type defect wave guide. A difference effective refraction indexes between the first portion and the second portion near the refraction-index-distributed type defect wave guide, changing continuously or stepwise along a wave guiding direction of the refraction-index-distributed type defect wave guide.
