    摘要: According to the invention, there is provided a damping structure capable of obtaining a sufficient damping effect even against vibrations of small amplitudes, by promoting movements of powder/particle materials inside a hollow body. In the damping structure of the invention, a damping member 2 is provided on a structure 1 to be damped. The damping member 2 includes a hollow body 5 which is filled with powder/particle materials 3, partially leaving a space 4. A vibration wall face part 7 which vibrates more violently than the structure 1, on receiving vibration, is formed in at least a part of wall face parts 6 of the hollow body 5. The vibration wall face part 7 is preferably formed of a material having a lower elastic modulus and/or a lower density than the other parts.

In the damping structure of the invention, a damping member 2 is provided on a structure 1 to be damped. The damping member 2 is composed of a hollow body 5, a powder/particle material 3 which is filled in the hollow body 5 with partially leaving a space 4, and moves inside the hollow body 5 when the structure 1 vibrates, and a vibrator 6 which is mounted inside the hollow body 5, and relatively vibrates with respect to the hollow body 5. The vibrator 6 exerts a force by coming into contact with the powder/particle material, when vibrating.

The pump further comprises means for balancing the pressure in said cavity, adapted so as to avoid the creation of pressure differentials in said cavity that would otherwise in use tend to cause translation of said rotor in said cavity.     摘要: A shaft seal, for use with a rotating shaft and a structure defining an aperture through which the shaft extends, is disclosed. The seal comprises a rotor, a seal member and a driver. The rotor, in use, is sealingly secured to said shaft, on one side of said aperture, for rotation therewith. The seal member, in use, defines a void through which said shaft extends in spaced relation, is operatively sealed about said aperture and is manipulable between a first position, abutting the rotor to seal the aperture, and a second position, spaced from the rotor. The driver is adapted to oscillate the seal member between the first position and the second position, at a high frequency such that, in use, liquid disposed on said one side of said aperture cannot infiltrate said void for egress to said aperture.
