摘要： A cache module (26) at a client computer (12) controls a cache portion (28) on a storage device (24). The cache module communicates with other cache modules at other clients to form a cache community (15). The cache modules store World Wide Web or other content in the cache portions for retrieval in response to requests (32) for content from browsers (30) in the cache community. When the requested content is not available in the cache community, the requested content may be retrieved from an origin server (19) using the Internet.

摘要： A method and system for dynamic distributed data caching is presented. The system includes one or more peer members and a master member. The master member and the one or more peer members form cache community for data storage. The master member is operable to select one of the one or more peer members to become a new master member. The master member is operable to update a peer list for the cache community by removing itself from the peer list. The master member is operable to send a nominate master message and an updated peer list to a peer member selected by the master member to become the new master member.

A master member volunteers to leave the cache community upon which decision a peer member is selected to become the new master member. Each peer member has an associated first content portion indicating content to be cached by the respective peer. A client may be allowed to join the cache community. A peer list associated with the cache community is updated to include the client. The peer list indicates the peers in the cache community. A respective second content portion is associated with each peer based on the addition of the client.

摘要： A method and system for dynamic distributed data caching is presented. The method includes establishing a cache community of members for data storage. A request for data at a particular member of the cache community is generated. A cache location in the cache community where the data would be located is determined. A determination is made as to whether the data is stored at the cache location. The data is requested from a source of the data in response to the data not being cached at the cache location. A determination is made as to whether the source is currently unavailable to provide the data. The data is continuously requested from the source while waiting for the source to become available. The particular member is allowed to request other data while waiting for data to become available from the source.
