摘要： An image forming apparatus comprising an image forming unit for forming a non-fixed toner image on a recording material, a heater for heating the non-fixed toner image, a back-up member for cooperating with the heater to form a nip therebetween, the back-up member pinching and conveying the recording material at the nip in such a manner that the non-fixed toner image is contacted with the heater so that the non-fixed toner image is fixed to the recording material by heat from the heater, and a cleaning member for cleaning the back-up member. The cleaning member is brought into a first and second cleaning mode in which an image forming operation is not effected and the back-up member is cleaned, the second cleaning mode having a cleaning time longer than a cleaning time of the first cleaning mode.

摘要： An image forming apparatus includes a heating rotatable member for heating a toner image on a recording material in a heating nip; a pressing rotatable member for forming the heating nip in contact with the heating rotatable member; a first external heating member, contacted to an outer peripheral surface of the heating rotatable member having passed through the heating nip, for heating the outer peripheral surface, wherein the first external heating member includes a parting layer at a surface where the first external heating member is contacted to the outer peripheral surface; and a second external heating member for heating the outer peripheral surface heated by the first external heating member, wherein the second external heating member includes a parting layer containing an electroconductive agent at a surface where the second external heating member is contacted to the outer peripheral surface. A contact angle of the parting layer of the first external heating member with respect to water is larger than that of the parting layer of the second external heating member, and a surface resistance of the second external heating member is lower than that of the first external heating member.

摘要： An image heating apparatus includes an endless belt for heating an image on a recording material in a nip and a pressing pad for pressing the belt from an inner surface thereof in the nip. A sheet-like member is provided to cover the pressing pad, providing for sliding movement relative to the belt. A lubricant absorbing member for suppressing swelling of the pressing pad by absorbing a lubricant applied on an inner surface of the belt, with the lubricant absorbing member covered by the sheet-like member.

摘要： An image heating apparatus includes a coil for generating magnetic flux and an image heating member. The image heating member comprises an electroconductive layer which generates heat by eddy current generated by the magnetic flux from the coil, for heating an image on a recording material. The image heating apparatus further comprises an energization control device for controlling energization of the coil so that a temperature of the image heating member is a predetermined temperature Tf (° C.), and a heat pipe contactable with the image heating member. The electroconductive layer has a Curie temperature Tc so that the relation Tf≦Tc≦Tf+Qmax (W)×Rh (° C./W) is satisfied, wherein Qmax (W) represents a maximum amount of heat transport, and Rh (° C./W) represents a value of heat resistance of the heat pipe at a dryout occurrence temperature of the heat pipe.

摘要： An image heating apparatus includes a rotatable heating member for heating an image on a recording material in a nip; a nip-forming member for forming the nip together with the heating member; a rotatable rubbing member for rubbing the heating member; a temperature sensor for detecting a temperature of the heating member; a moving mechanism for moving the rubbing member from a position where it is spaced from the heating member to a position where it rubs a surface of the heating member; and a controller for executing, by moving the rubbing member to the position where it rubs the surface of the heating member, a rubbing operation such that the rubbing member rubs the surface of the heating member. The controller executes the rubbing operation depending on the temperature detected by the temperature sensor when the recording material passes through the nip.

摘要： An image heating apparatus includes a heating roller; a belt forming a heating nip; a heating device for heating the heating roller; a controller for controlling a temperature of the heating roller at temperature depending on thickness of sheet; an air feeding device for feeding air to the belt; an executing portion capable of executing an operation in a mode in which the air feeding device feeds the air into between the belt and the heating roller while the belt is spaced from the heating roller with the belt and the heating member being rotating. When a thin sheet is fed following a thick sheet, the executing portion executes the operation in the mode after the thick sheet passes through the nip and before the thin sheet is fed into the nip.
