Abstract: A liquid crystal display comprises a liquid crystal panel and a backlight unit. The liquid crystal panel includes a main display area and a sub-display area protruding from the main display area. The backlight unit includes a light guide plate having a main light plate below the main display area and a sub-display light plate below the sub-display area. A first light source emits first light primarily into the main light plate below the main display area and a second light source emits second light primarily into the sub-display light plate below the sub-display area.
