    Abstract: Disclosed are an electronic device and a method for controlling the same. The electronic device includes: a signal detection module configured to acquire an electric signal from an earphone plug; and a controller is configured to acquire the electric signal through the signal detection module, to detect magnitude of the acquired electric signal, to determine whether an earphone is worn by comparing a variation amount in the magnitude of the electric signal with a reference value, and to control an output operation of a sound according to whether the earphone is worn.
