    Abstract: A liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal injected between upper and lower plates, wherein the upper and lower plates have electrodes respectively formed thereon, an upper alignment film formed on the upper plate and a lower alignment film formed on the lower plate, wherein only one of the alignment films on the upper plate and the lower plate is aligned in to determine an incipient alignment direction of the liquid crystal.

    Abstract: An electric field alignment method of liquid crystal display including the steps of: applying a first voltage to a gate terminal of a thin film transistor for driving a liquid crystal cell having ferroelectric liquid crystal, wherein the first voltage is below a threshold voltage of the thin film transistor; and supplying a second voltage for electric field alignment of the ferroelectric liquid crystal to the liquid crystal cell by using leakage current of the thin film transistor generated due to the first voltage.
