    Abstract: Fluid displacement pressure gauges have pressure responsive elements which displace gauging fluid in readout tubes. Gauging fluid can be located inside or outside the pressure responsive elements. The pressure responsive elements may be capsules with flexible walls or tubular members with flat, curved, corrugated or round walls. Temperature-compensating means and spring rate adjustment means are provided to improve accuracy of reading precision instruments. Hermetically sealed gauges can be used in any position. Readout tubes may have bores of different sizes to improve readout resolution. Differently colored gauging fluids in the readout tubes serve to improve readability. Automatic compensation means may be provided to compensate for variations in fluid volume due to temperature changes. Readout tubes can be provided with means to eliminate parallax in reading scales. Readout tubes and scales can be coiled to improve readout resolution without increasing overall scale height.

    Abstract: A MANOMETER FOR ACCURATELY MEASURING EXTREMELY SMALL CHANGES IN FLUID PRESSURES EMPLOYS AN INVERTED VERTICAL USHAPED TUBE ASSEMBLY HAVING A NARROW UNIFORM BORE THROUGHOUT ITS LENGTH. TWO UPWARDLY TURNED LEG PORTIONS ARE CONNECTED TO TWO CONTAINERS OR EQUAL SIZE CONTAINING TWO FLUIDS OF DIFFERENT COLORS AND DENSITIES. THE FLUIDS FILL THE TUBE AND MEET AT A MENISCUS WHOSE POSITION IN THE TUBE IS READ ON A GRADUATED SCALE ADJACENT TO THE TRANSPARENT TUBE. THE SCALE IS ADJUSTABLY MOVABLE ALONG THE TUBE. THE HEIGHT OF ONE OCNTAINER IS ALSO ADJUSTABLE. EITHER ONE OF THE CONTAINERS MAY BE OPEN TO THE ATMOSPHERE WHILE THE OTHER CONTAINER IS OPEN TO A SOURCE OF VARIABLE PRESSURE. ANY CHANGE IN THE VARIABLE PRESSURE PRODUCES A CHANGE IN SCALE READING. THE DISTANCE THE MENISCUS MOVES UPON A CHANGE IN PRESSURE DEPENDS ON THE RATIO OF DENSITIES AND RATIO OF CROSS SECTIONAL AREA OF ONE CONTAINER TO CROSS SECTIONAL AREA OF THE BORE OF THE TUBE.

VOLUME ADJUSTMENT MEANS MAY BE CONNECTED TO THE TUBE FOR ADJUSTING RELATIVE VOLUMES OF THE FLUIDS IN THE TUBE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ANY DIFFERENCE IN THERMAL COEFFEIENTS OF EXPANSION OF THE FLUIDS IN THE TUBE.
