Abstract: A cathode ray tube (CRT) having an image screen composed of a material that is both cathodochromic and fluorescent and in which the cathodochromic coloration lifetime is at least a month. The material employed is Na6 Al6 (GeySi1 y)6 O24.2(1-z) NaX wherein z is the fraction of NaX vacancies, X is chosen from the group consisting essentially of chlorine, bromine, OH and iodine and mixtures thereof, and y varies from 0.003 to 0.30.
