An ad system for use in a virtual environment. The ad system includes an ad engine integrated in an advertising enabled application, an advertising scheduling system, reporting software, impression metric processing software, and billing components wherein coordinates of ad object and camera data were made available to the ad engine during development of the application. Related methods of developing advertising enabled application software including an ad engine and use of a computer system for delivering ad content within a virtual environment are also provided.

An approach is provided for generating composite media and delivering the composite media to a client application. Data is received from one or more external sources, and a portion of the data is selected to be used in the composite media according to the time period of delivery of the client application, user information, or the type of client application requesting the media, if a request has been made. The selected data is integrated into a pre-created template to generate the composite media, such as an advertisement, special offers, or weather and stock information. The composite media may be modified prior to being delivered to the client application. The selection of the pre-created template and the modification of the composite media are made according to requirements of the client application, user information, or the type of client application (e.g., gaming application) requesting the media.

A user's experience with content on a device can be impacted based on the disposition of the content and the type of device. The user can experience a wealth of advertisements when consuming content that has no license. Likewise, the user can experience little or no advertisements when consuming content that has a license. The amount of advertisements are determined by a set of monetization rules as well as by the amount of authorization remaining in the license. Further, the user's ability to control the device when rendering the content is determined by the monetization rules which are influenced by the licensing status of the content.
