Abstract: Process for making barium ferrite particles which are especially adapted to mechanical orientation in admixture with a workable nonmagnetic matrix material to provide flexible magnets of extraordinarily high magnetic values. Starting with acicular alpha-Fe2O3 particles, BaCO3, a fluxing agent such as NaF and a lead compound such as PbO, magnetic particles are obtained which provide, when oriented in a rubber matrix, permanent magnet material having a maximum energy product of at least 1.4 X 106 gauss-oersteds.
