Abstract: A safety switch mechanism for use in connection with a recoil starter using a rope or cable. Such a starter is used on the usual internal combustion engine mounted on a vehicle such as a tractor which carries with it a powered tool such as a grass cutting unit. The mechanism is particularly adapted for safety systems wherein the engine is short-circuited so that the engine can not be started by pulling the rope or cable unless both the clutch of the tractor and the clutch of the powered tool are disengaged. This safety switch mechanism has a unique construction enabling it to be locked in open position so that the switch mechanism is not inadvertently opened by vibration or other means after the engine is started and the tractor and powered tool are being used.
