摘要: A combustion system for a hybrid solar receiver comprises a pre-mixer which combines air and fuel to form an air-fuel mixture. The mixture is introduced tangentially into a cooling jacket. A burner plenum is fluidically connected to the cooling jacket such that the burner plenum and the cooling jacket are arranged in thermal contact with one another. The air-fuel mixture flows through the cooling jacket cooling the burner plenum to reduce pre-ignition of the air-fuel mixture in the burner plenum. A combustion chamber is operatively associated with and open to the burner plenum to receive the air-fuel mixture from the burner plenum. An igniter is operatively positioned in the combustion chamber to combust the air-fuel mixture, releasing heat. A recuperator is operatively associated with the burner plenum and the combustion chamber and pre-heats the air-fuel mixture in the burner plenum with heat from the combustion chamber. A heat-exchanger is operatively associated and in thermal contact with the combustion chamber. The heat-exchanger provides heat for the hybrid solar receiver.

摘要: An acoustic cooling device is provided. A coldhead and an acoustic power source of the acoustic cooling device are separated by way of a long tube connecting them to enable the cold tip to be installed in a remote location where a traditional unitary system would not fit, would generate too much vibration, or would be otherwise undesirable. The dimensions of the tube and the relevant parameters of the acoustic power source are selected to keep the system resonant at the desired drive frequency (e.g., 60 Hz) and to minimize the impact of the long tube on the system efficiency and capacity.

摘要: A shade positioning and mounting apparatus 10 is disclosed which allows a shade 12 to be raised or lowered to a desired position by means of a cord 80 under the control of a cam 22. The cord lock body 20 is symmetrically configured about a longitudinal axis so that the same body can be interchangeably used at either end of the top shade rail 14. Mounting bracket 16 permits shade rail 14 to be readily secured to or released from a supporting wall or ceiling by means of a manually operable locking member 50 which slides between the locked and released positions without the need for any tools.

摘要: A water management system for a fuel cell having an anode chamber including a fuel, a cathode chamber in fluid communication with an oxidizing agent, and a proton conducting membrane electrolyte separating the chambers. The system includes a gas plenum, a first valve for controlling a first flow of a gas from the anode chamber into the gas plenum, and a second valve for controlling a second flow of the gas collected by the gas plenum into the cathode chamber. The first valve is opened allowing the first flow while the second valve is closed between the gas plenum and the cathode chamber so that effluent gas is collected in the gas plenum. When the amount of the effluent gas in the gas plenum reaches a predetermined value, the first valve is closed and the second valve is opened to allow the second flow.

摘要: A system and method are disclosed for the production of oxygen-enriched liquid and purified gaseous oxygen from local atmospheric air. In one embodiment, the system includes an air mover for generating a local atmospheric air stream; a cryocooler including a cooling element thermally coupled to a condensing separator; a heat exchanger having a first path for receiving a cold gaseous exhaust stream from the condensing separator and a second path for chilling and removing readily-condensible contaminants from the local atmospheric air stream to form a purified gas mixture stream via heat transfer to the cold gaseous exhaust stream; and a receiver for the oxygen-enriched liquid that condenses from the purified gas mixture stream in the condensing separator, leaving the gaseous exhaust stream.

摘要: A cord-operated window covering is provided with means for equalizing the individual lift cord lengths to maintain a horizontal and level bottom rail, while avoiding the choking danger to small children presented by exposed cord loops that can become entangled with the child. A break-away coupling of the exposed cord ends is provided in the form of a shear-loaded, separable joint that is strong when subjected to shear-type forces in normal use, but which is weak when loaded in peel or tension perpendicular to the joint, as would occur in a potentially dangerous child-entangled situation. The joint is formed by surface-modifying products applied to the opposed abutting surfaces of the individual cordlock members. Also disclosed is an embodiment that utilizes a continuous lift cord loop that is frictionally gripped by a gripper member secured to the shade. The gripper member temporarily permits the cord to slip through the gripper if the operator applies sufficient manual downward force on the higher end of a bottom rail that has lost its desired horizontal or level orientation.
