    摘要: Data migration can be preformed between source and target storage subsystems without stopping exchanging data between a host computer and each of the storage subsystems.After a next access path, which should be set instead of a specific access path in an available state among access paths, is set between the host computer and a migration target logical unit via a host port and a target port, the status of the next access path is set to an available state and the status of the specific access path is set to an unavailable state. After the next access path is set to an available state, data is migrated from a migration source logical unit of the source storage subsystem to the migration target logical unit of the target storage subsystem.

    摘要: Long-term preservation of data (archive) has become more important. In order to reduce the maintenance cost for data, a first storage system consolidating a disk system and an MT library system has a disk interface with respect to a host computer and has a function of storing a logical volume in an MT. In addition, the first storage system has a function of managing information such as information indicating in which MT the logical volume is stored, and in which slot of a library the MT is stored. By using such functions, it is possible to integrally manage storage areas of the disk system and the MT library as logical volumes, thereby reducing the management cost.

    摘要: Backup and restore operations are made possible in a storage system that has dynamic chunk allocation (DCA) capability. In a DCA storage system, a chunk of physical storage area is not allocated to a segment of a volume until a write command is received targeting the segment of the volume. During a restore operation of the volume in the DCA storage system, the wasting of storage capacity when a backup image of the volume is restored is mitigated by preventing allocation of physical storage areas to segments of restore data that are only void data.

    摘要: A unified storage system for executing a variety of types of storage control software using a single standardized hardware platform includes multiple storage control modules connected to storage devices for storing data related to input/output (I/O) operations. A first type of storage control software is initially installed and executed on a first storage control module for processing a first type of I/O operations. A management module replaces the first type of storage control software by installing a second type of storage control software onto the first storage control module. When the second type of storage control software is installed and executed, the first storage control module processes a second type of I/O operation, different from the first type of I/O operation. Control of volumes originally accessed by the first storage control module may be transferred to a second storage control module having the first type of storage control software installed.
