After the solenoid attracts the plunger to open the shutter, conduction voltage for holding the plunger is controlled within a permissible range and become lower than the conduction voltage utilized for initially attracting the plunger. The heating of the solenoid is thus minimized. This control sequence prevents the breakdown of the solenoid and improved reliability in exposure control. Furthermore, power consumption in the camera is minimized.
