Abstract: A video signal enhancement system is disclosed for enhancing the signal component representing the brightness of scene elements in a low contrast scene, wherein overall scene contrast is represented by a slowly varying DC component of an amptitudemodulated carrier frequency and the element brightness by one cycle of the carrier frequency. The system includes in addition to input/output and intermediate filters, an automatic signal range control circuit, which acts as a high pass filter to reduce the effect of the low frequency signal component.
