    Abstract: An event recognition apparatus is configured to acquire an observation signal indicating sound or vibration that occurs at a point along an optical fiber and is detected by optical fiber sensing, also acquire a noise signal indicating optical noise present at a point along the optical fiber, and by using statistical information of a sound signal or a vibration signal acquired by a sound sensor or a vibration sensor, derive, from each of the observation signal and the noise signal, a posterior probability that at least one event occurs at a point along the optical fiber, and compare a posterior probability derived from the observation signal with a posterior probability derived from the noise signal, derive, from a result of the comparison, a posterior probability that the at least one event occurs at a point along the optical fiber, and output a result of the derivation.

    Abstract: A distributed optical fiber sensing (DFOS) system includes a non-transitory computer readable medium configured to store instructions thereon. The DFOS system includes a processor connected to the non-transitory computer readable medium. The processor is configured to receive DFOS data from a sensor connected to an optical fiber, wherein the optical fiber is adjacent a roadway having a bridge. The processor is further configured to filter the DFOS data based on a frequency range. The processor is further configured to generate a plurality of spread features, wherein each spread feature of the plurality of spread features corresponds to a channel of a plurality of channels of the filtered DFOS data. The processor is further configured to perform binarization of the plurality of spread features. The processor is further configured to identify a location of the bridge along the roadway based on results of the binarization of the plurality of spread features.

    Abstract: An apparatus includes memory and processor configured to: input, from a sensor, a signal indicating a characteristic vibration occurring at each position of an optical fiber, and estimate, based on the input signal, an aerial section in which the optical fiber being aerially laid over a pole is present; calculate, based on the input signal, sensing data indicating a vibration characteristic of each position of the optical fiber being present in the aerial section, and calculate a difference degree of the sensing data between two neighboring points of the optical fiber; and temporally integrate the difference degree, calculate a time average of the difference degree, estimate, based on a time average value of the difference degree, a position of the pole and a position of an extra length section of the optical fiber, and output an estimation result of positions of the pole and the extra length section.
