Abstract: A positive active material for a lithium ion battery has a layered structure and contains nickel atoms and cobalt atoms. The positive active material has a ratio of a number of moles of the nickel atom to a total number of moles of metal atoms other than lithium that is 0.7 or more and less than 1. The positive active material has a disorder of lithium element determined by an X-ray diffraction method that is 6.2% or less.
