Provided is a method for producing a hydrogenated unsaturated polyhydroxyhydrocarbon polymer capable of suppressing side reactions such as a hydrogenolysis reaction of a terminal hydroxyl group and achieving a high hydrogenation rate in a short reaction time. A hydrogenated unsaturated polyhydroxyhydrocarbon polymer is obtained by a method including: hydrogenating an unsaturated polyhydroxyhydrocarbon polymer under the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst and a reaction solvent in the following two stages (I) and (II): (I) carrying out a hydrogenation reaction in a temperature range of 80° C. to 130° C. until a hydrogenation rate of at least 30 mol % is achieved; and then (II) carrying out a hydrogenation reaction at a temperature higher than 130° C. until a hydrogenation rate of at least 98 mol % is achieved.
