Abstract: An improved process for polymerizing vicinal alkylene oxides in the presence of a catalyst comprising the reaction product of an aluminum or tin compound of the formula (i) RnAlX3 n, (ii) R''mMX4 m or (iii) SnX2 wherein the variables are as defined in the specification and one of a phosphorus-containing compounds of the (1)-(12) members specified in the specification.
