Abstract: A gear cutting apparatus, especially for cutting gears on a gear blank of elliptical cross section, wherein a rotatable cutting tool reciprocable in a direction normal to its axis of rotation cuts helical teeth in the gear blank which is mounted for rotation about an axis parallel to the direction of reciprocation of the cutting tool.
