Abstract: A filter part (1) for use in an aerosol generating article and a method of manufacturing the filter part (1). The filter part (1) includes an aerosol permeable core (11) surrounded by a sleeve (12). The sleeve (12) is formed of linear, axially oriented fibres and the core (11) is formed of expanded, randomly oriented fibres. The method includes forming two or more strips (2a, 2b) into segments surrounding a conveying path, bringing the segments together into a sleeve former (7) to form the sleeve (12) and introducing loose fibres (52) between the segments upstream of the sleeve former (7) such that they are drawn therein in a random orientation and compressed between the segments as they are brought together to form a filter rod (8) with an aerosol permeable core (11) within the sleeve (12). The filter rod (8) is then cut to form the filter part (1).

Abstract: An aerosol-generating system is provided, including: an aerosol-generating device having a locked state in which the aerosol-generating device is prohibited from generating aerosol and an unlocked state in which the aerosol-generating device is permitted to generate aerosol; and a receiving device to at least partially receive the aerosol-generating device, each of the aerosol-generating and the receiving devices includes a communication interface to communicatively couple the aerosol-generating device with the receiving device, the receiving device including a control arrangement with at least one biometric sensor to authenticate a user of the system based on sensing at least one biometric feature of the user, and the control arrangement being configured to transmit an authentication signal to the aerosol-generating device to configure the aerosol-generating device into the locked state or into the unlocked state, the authentication signal being indicative of a successful or an unsuccessful authentication of the user at the receiving device.

Abstract: A filter part (1, 1′) for use in an aerosol generating article and a method of manufacturing the filter part (1, 1′). The filter part (1, 1′) includes an aerosol permeable core (2) within a sleeve (3) formed integrally therearound. The core (2) is shorter than the integrally formed sleeve (3). The method includes conveying a plurality of aerosol permeable cores (2) along a conveying path at a first speed (S1) and forming a sleeve (3) around each core (2) at a second speed (S2). The second speed (S2) is greater than the first speed (S1) to generate a space between consecutive cores (2) within the sleeve (3).
