The programming instructions are operable to configure an initiator-to-initiator message route in a switched fiber channel arbitrated loop (FCAL) network such that the initiator-to-initiator message route traverses a replacement field replaceable unit (FRU). Additionally, the programming instructions are operable to transmit a verification initiator-to-initiator message along the initiator-to-initiator message route to verify proper operation of the replacement FRU.

    摘要： A management apparatus operable for protecting data on a failing storage device in a data processing system including a storage array having at least one of a plurality of storage devices. The management apparatus includes a receiver component for receiving a failure message indicating that the plurality of storage devices comprises the failing storage device. An analyzer component is in communication with the receiver component and responsive to receipt of the failure message, for analyzing the failure message. A sender component is in communication with the analyzer component. The sender component is adapted for, in response to the analyzer component determining the failing storage device, sending a zoning message, the zoning message instructing the storage array to isolate the failing storage device, and sending a protect message. The protect message instructs the storage array to protect data on the failing storage device.

    摘要： A computer has access to a number of data items available from at least one data source. The computer receives requests for the values of certain of these data items from a number of different clients which may be either devices external to the computer or application programs operating in a multitasking environment within the computer. As each request is received from a client, it is stored in a data item table. The computer replies to each client request in the data item table with a data item value available somewhere in the data item table. The computer updates older data item values held by the data item table by requesting those data item values from the data sources which provide them. The data item values supplied to clients are those from previously received data source replies if these replies are not too old. This reduces the number of requests for data item values which the data sources must handle, reduces traffic on a data link which might otherwise be overloaded, and reduces the delay in responding to client requests.

    摘要： A connector cable assembly has first and second plugs wired to permit plugging into a first pair of electrical plugs with a pair of terminals in a first configuration to place the terminals of those plugs in parallel connection, and to permit plugging into a second pair of electrical plugs with a pair of terminals in a second configuration, to place the terminals of those plugs in series connection. In a commercial embodiment, such a cable assembly can be used to provide power to electrical devices such as gas valves connected to receive power in parallel from the first pair of electrical plugs, and to connect in series, safety switches connected to plugs with a pair of terminals in the second configuration. By using an adapter with specialized connections between two sets of terminals it is possible to use additional cable assemblies to connect in excess of two switches in series.
