The method comprises the steps of providing a database including a plurality of data tables, which are non-hierarchically indexed; providing a search field corresponding to each one of the plurality of data tables, the search fields being non-sequential relative to one another; and inputting either partial or complete information into any one or more of the search fields. The input of information into the search fields may be performed non-sequentially. The input of partial information into the search field yields an unresolved field and the input of complete information into the search field yields a resolved field. The method further includes searching the database for information matching both the unresolved fields and the resolved fields, and retrieving one or more results. Each of the results includes the information inputted into both the unresolved field and resolved fields.

The invention is to have an entertainment system which utilizes metadata to offer a feature that will allow the user to listen to any audio source based on their listening preference. This invention also allows the user of a radio receiver to be able to easily locate music of a particular genre without regard to the actual source. This invention further provides a mechanism for the music stored on a hard drive to be used to create a personalized radio station, complete with inserts of localized information.

The medium contents, including audio track and data file information, are read following disc presentation to a media player. In an aspect, audio tracks are incorporated into a folder structure for display purposes. The audio tracks can be incorporated into an existing folder, a newly-created folder, a folder with data files, a folder without data files, or a combination thereof. The present invention facilitates making a CD unambiguous to read and navigate. Both the audio contents and the data contents of a disc can be displayed upfront without having to engage a format mode change button.

If the user does not select at least one filter, a playlist is compiled of all songs encompassed by the specific selection made by the user. If the user does select at least one filter, the at least one filter is applied to the selected options.
