摘要: A resource allocation device (101, 104) utilizes a method for allocating communication resources (124-129) among groups of communication units (106-109, 111-113, 115). The resource allocation device receives a call request from a communication unit of a first group of communication units. Responsive to the call request, the resource allocation device allocates an available communication resource to communication unit based at least on a quantity of communication resources currently being utilized by the first group of communication units.

摘要: A priority scheme for a system that supports dispatch and telephone services whereby more important calls, of the type spanning across the same or multiple cells, are dynamically assigned higher positions in the queue for the next voice channel to become available. Less important calls are readily identified and can have their voice channel taken away, i.e., dropped, to provide a channel for an emergency call. The priority scheme also makes it possible to for the priority of call in progress to dynamically change, e.g., increasing priority over time so that its voice channel can't be taken away by a higher priority call, or decreasing priority of call as a function of time in progress.

摘要: A communications system provides subfleet calls for both voice and data communications using a secondary identification (301, 303, 305, 307, 309) incorporating a plurality of subfleets in a hierarchical arrangement. A message including the secondary identification (301, 303, 305, 307, 309) is transmitted to a communication unit (117) having a stored secondary identification (301, 303, 305, 307, 309). If the transmitted secondary identification sufficiently matches the stored secondary identification, the communication unit (117) responds to the instructions in the transmitted message.
